Massive Safety Upgrade at Roof Rock: A Successful Rebolt Complete

Updated: Jul 12

We’re proud to share that the rebolting of Roof Rock is now complete—and it was a huge success.

Thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, including developers from across the region, we were able to remove and replace nearly all of the aging fixed hardware on the wall. Much of what came out had been in place for almost 40 years, and as you can see from the pile we pulled, it was well past time for a refresh.

These outdated bolts and hangers have now been replaced with modern stainless steel hardware donated by the American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA). This upgrade not only improves the safety of Roof Rock but also helps preserve one of our community’s most popular beginner-friendly climbing areas.

It’s important to note that ECCC strives to follow the ethical standard of limited route modification. At Roof Rock, a few routes required changes to address safety concerns. In every case, we sought and received approval from the original first ascentionists before making any modifications.

We’re especially grateful to those who came out to help, whether by replacing hardware, hauling gear, or lending a hand wherever it was needed. Your efforts ensure that climbers can continue to enjoy Roof Rock for generations to come.

This kind of work is only possible through community support. If you’d like to get involved in future hardware replacement projects, trail work, or education events, sign up to volunteer or make a donation to support our mission.

We hope to see you out there—on new, safe, bomber bolts.
